Sorry lads - life as an Art Director sometimes gets in the way of what you are doing. Also I have been painting some figs that I hope will lead to better things for me :-).

Anyhow... just updated a new tutorial for BoLS (teaser below) that I hope will go live soon, second part is to follow mid next week and I want to do a Christmas themed snow base tutorial this weekend as well (not like I need to talk to my family or anything right? :-)).

Cool stuff today

Some cool stuff I got going on right now.

I am painting this bust by ANAKRON - it is great but a little intimidating.. I am trying out some new color combination's and ways of shading. It is the first bust I paint and these things don't hide a thing - you have to work on your blends like crazy!

A trollblood that I am painting (TT) for my friend who will use it as a substitute Champion hero. I am almost done with this one which means I get to finish his Extreme Blitzer next :-)

Gavin at Tor Gaming is a great guy and he sent me two sets of his minis for me to paint - I have some great plans for these little buggers (and will take cutters and saw to them) but that will come this weekend :-) (see pictures of these painted by atacam here and here.) The rules are available for free and hopefully I can get to play this soon!

Last is something that will be real dangerous to the wallet - Super Dungeon Explorer from Soda Pop. This game caught my eyes right away since I was brought up playing 8-bit NES and Master System back in Sweden. These minis are right out of these games... There are very little details so far but this is one of the "evil" guys. It is one of the promotion figures that are 20% larger than the final production minis will be - this guy has more pewter in his shield than most 28mm figures do..

Jinn stones for Alkemy

Super cheap jinn stones - I ordered fake Chinese coins from here and used left over Confrontation Age of Ragnarok bases (that obviously was never going to get used... :-)).

1 hour of work (excluding drying times) and I am happy with the result:

Tank WIPs

I have tried so many times to paint space marine Rhinos and Land Raiders (when I started playing 40k it was called Rouge trader and there was no tanks back then - only instructions on how to build your own baneblade using plasticard :-)). And I have never really enjoyed it. It has been forced and even the original Rhino (tiny) felt like a choir.

But I got three leman russes the other day and I have not been able to stop painting them for my DKOK force - I just put everything else on hold and went at it. I think it might have to do with the LR being more akin to real tanks.. almost a little retro a la WWII... that I enjoy it so much.

Also - I got these of BT (as menitoned before from chadbacca) and they came with the minesweeper bart attached... I broke it off and magnetized the hell out of it. Picking up a model and the part and just hearing the click as the part fits is almost like porn - so darn satisfying :-)

So when I went to Games Day I got smitten by something I have been looking at for a while - the Death Korps of Krieg... my new goal is to have a full painted (but small) army in time for next years GD to have it compete in Armys on Parade.

The problem with this force is the cost - but some of it can be negated by buying "standard" tanks and try to just use the specialty models. Still I am hunting everywhere for cast aways and just from the past week I have managed to grab both 3 Leman Russ tanks (thank you very much chadbacca on BT) and a unit of Grenadiers (grahamma on BT and mrgraham on dragonpainting is a real nice guy). I will be looking everywhere to grab more stuff but because my list now includes 6 different armies for 5 different games I won't be able to get it all from FW directly - if you got some stuff: please let me know since I will probably want it :-)

Promise of a lot and then nothing

Since I promised to update this frequently I have failed misserably - but at least I have managed to amass a great collection of Rackham miniatures as well as get a guest article written for www.brushthralls.com (an excellent site and I am very proud to have been able to contribute with at least article for it).

Other things in the works (and I will get pictures of WIP up tomorrow).

Commissions:
- Gudren
- Extreme sculpt blitzer
- Hell Dorado Angel

All three of these will be done before mid May.

My own stuff:
- Hell Dorado riflemen (almost done)

After this lot is done I will finally begin painting some of the undead I managed to get hold of as part of a huge Rackham lot.

When it comes to gaming I have gotten some Confrontation: Age of Ragnarok games in and I like the system a lot. For what I paid for all my pre-painted plastics (I know - a sin) I have already gotten my money back - but I will play a lot more. Rackham recently announced that they will be releasing army boxes - I think that it is a really good choice and wish them the best. Especially since their, more painter oriented, resin line looks awesome!

Hell Dorado and the Meta of Mk II

I always seem to fall in love with mini's that then goes on to disappearing (Rakham/Mutant Chronicles) so now here is the next game in line for the chopping board: Hell Dorado. A great line of miniatures and fast rules wasn't enough, and Asmodee just recently made it public that they will cease production in July. It might have been due to the extremely adult content of the game and the publisher not wanting to bring it to the lucrative US market (Hell Dorado is set in the 17th century - in hell) or the game might just not have sold that great. It is up for grabs right now and I surely hope that Fantasy Flight or any other great American publisher picks up the pieces and does something with it.

So Metamorphosis was released last week, a week after Privateer Press announced they are completely changing the rules and armies in an updated Mk II coming out next year (with a BETA in April of this year). Now to me that feels a little like selling a car with a sign that says: "Pedal Driven - engine available next year". Never the less I bought the book and as always it is a great looking book. Especially the illustrations by Matt Dixon for the Trollbloods. I like the cartoon style and it is what I try to achieve when I am painting my army.

The text is not that good, the fluff feels like an afterthought and more like a teaser for the next book than a real story arc. The new units and their rules are all in the eye of the beholder (and don't forget - they are getting an update) so I won't go into that.

The new miniatures are great! Some more than others though and Privateer Press has gone from having a steady even flow of great looking models to having huge up and downs (maybe they should've kept Felix Paniagua http://www.avatars-of-war.com for a little longer :-)). Matt DiPietro is a fantastic painter that is getting better every issue of NQ and his work shine on the pages!

Overall I am treating the book as a dirty magazine: I am not too interested in the text and I spend way too much time looking at the images (but the similarities end there :-)).
